Students Recognized in Annual Writing Contest

91视频 students were recently honored for their outstanding work in academic and creative writing through the annual Poetry and Research Writing Contest hosted by the English and Humanities Department.

The contest featured two categories鈥擱esearch and Poetry鈥攁nd recognized students whose submissions demonstrated originality, critical thought, and strong writing skills. Winners received cash prizes and will have their work published in the upcoming edition of 91视频鈥檚 Literary and Art Review.

In the Research category:

  • First Place 鈥 Kristen Cook, 鈥淟earning Through Listening: Exploring the Legitimacy of Audiobooks in Education鈥 ($100)
  • Second Place 鈥 Taylor James, 鈥淭he Deal with Amtrak and Springfield, Missouri鈥 ($50)
  • Third Place 鈥 Reis, 鈥淭he Luminescent Soul: Gnostic Philosophy, Transgenderism, and Christian Transprejudice鈥 ($25)
  • Honorable Mention 鈥 Kendall Krause, 鈥淭he Story Behind Kendrick Lamar鈥檚 Superbowl LIX Halftime Show鈥

In the Poetry category:

  • First Place 鈥 Kenny Jacks, 鈥淵ou are my Sunshine (Veronah鈥檚 Poem)鈥 ($100)
  • Second Place 鈥 Lauren Hooey, 鈥淔ive Year Plan鈥 ($50)
  • Third Place 鈥 Hope Bratch, 鈥淲omen at War鈥 ($25)
  • Honorable Mention 鈥 Bailey Weber, 鈥淎 Different Kind of Fairy Tale鈥

The contest was judged by 91视频 faculty members John Hardecke and Dr. Aurelia VonTress, who evaluated entries for originality, depth, and technical quality.

The Literary and Art Review, 91视频鈥檚 annual publication celebrating student creativity, will be released later this spring and will feature these award-winning pieces alongside other selected student work.
